The A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange Jumping Seconds was an impressive piece originally introduced in 2016. That model was in platinum, and as Lange tends to do, they take their time with variations. So now we get a pink gold edition.

This new one is still based on Anthony de Haas, Lange’s (Dutch) director of product development, version of an old Lange pocket watch. One with a triple regulator dial.

The Lange watch puts the focus on the smallest of the three time measurement units. Something that can be interpreted literally. In 60 steps per minute, the blued seconds hand advances along the upper and largest circle of the minimalistic regulator dial.

An ingenious one-second constant-force escapement that serves two purposes defines the cadence. On the one hand, it delivers the switching impulse for the seconds jump, and, on the other, it assures constant power delivery for the entire power-reserve of 42 hours. A small indication in the intersection of the three time circles tells the owner when to rewind the watch: it switches to red ten hours in advance.

Also pretty handy for the most precise timekeeping: the zero-reset mechanism. When the crown is pulled, it stops the balance and instantly propels the seconds hand to the zero position. This allows the watch to be conveniently and precisely synchronized with a time signal or a radio-controlled clock. An innovative multi-disc clutch reliably stabilizes the large seconds hand throughout the accelerating and braking phases to assure perfect one-second legibility of the time.

The A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange Jumping Seconds in pink gold comes on a reddish-brown alligator leather. The model is limited – just like the platinum version – to 100 pieces.
