The A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Up-Down White Gold combines a chronograph, big date, and power reserve indicator. This time executed in white gold with a sparkling blue dial, a new material for the Datograph Up-Down and a new dial color as well. Earlier the brand already released the ref. 405.031 in pink gold with a black dial and the ref. 405.035 with the same dial and platinum case.
Up-Down refers to the power reserve indicator at the 6 o’clock position (Auf and Ab in German), meaning fully wound and unwound. The watch is 41 millimeters, executed in 18-carat white gold and the dial has the same lay-out as earlier versions. Including silver sub dials. As the main plate is crafted from 925 silver.
Flyback chronograph
With the top pusher you active the chronograph, or stop it, or resume it. The bottom pusher is to reset the chronograph once you have stopped it, or, when it is running, restart it at once: flyback. It’s an aviation-style way of operating the chronograph, with quick steps.
Of course, the A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Up-Down White Gold has a big date, or panorama date, or outsize date as Lange calls it, here at 12 o’clock. Quick adjustment goes with the pusher on the left. There are two discs behind the aperture forming the correct date. At the edge of the dial there is a tachymeter scale.
The A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Up-Down White Gold has a power reserve of 60 hours
Inside is an evolution of the caliber L951.1. Over time it got more power reserve, 60 hours now, and a power reserve indicator as well. Resulting in the A. Lange & Sohne caliber L951.6 that was introduced already in 2012. Flip the watch and admire this piece of art with bridges made of untreated German silver, a hand-engraved balance cock with a whiplash spring and four gold screwed chatons. And play with the chronograph to see all the mechanics come into action.
The A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Up-Down White Gold comes on a blue hand-stitched alligator leather strap with 18-carat white gold prong buckle. The watch is limited to 125 pieces and the edition number is engraved in the case band. The price is on request, but count an a +100,000 price tag.
