The Alpina Heritage Automatic is a so called field watch that takes you back to the earlier years of the last century. We are talking about the 1920s and the two decades that followed. During that time watches with a design like this are very common, mostly for military purposes. They have sector-like dials, with two or more often circular parts, and a minute/second chapter ring. Sometimes on the flange of the dial, sometimes around the another (inner) part of the dial.

This watch is part of Alpina’s new Heritage collection with models that bring back the good old times when the watch industry was shifting. During the era of this field watch-style people were used to have a pocket watch, if you could afford one. And in the beginning of the 20th century the wristwatch slowly becomes more popular. And more affordable for a larger audience. It’s cool that today brands are still looking back at that time, combining designs from then with techniques of the present.

Two Heritage Automatic models

The new Alpina Heritage Automatic comes in two references. Both have blue PVD hands for the hours, minutes and seconds. One has a beige dial with a black chapter ring with numerals, a black inner ring and printed black Arabic numerals.

The other one has a two-tone dial in beige and silver, with only four printed bronze colored Arabic numerals. In between them are printed bronze colored hour marker batons. The chapter ring is black.

The Alpina Heritage Automatic has a power reserve of 38 hours

The movement of the Alpina Heritage Automatic is the Alpina caliber AL-520, an adjusted Sellita caliber SW200-1 b which is the no-date version. Not too expensive, good quality, with a rather modest power reserve of 38 hours.

These 38-millimeter stainless steel Heritage models have a solid case back with engravings. And they come on a black calf leather strap with tone-on-tone stitching and a steel pin buckle.
