The concept of the Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition is pretty clear: combining two completely independent movements. Which makes it possible to have two displays of the time, all in a very subtle 39-millimeter case. Here executed in white gold. Let’s look at the front first.

On the dial side you have a view on the two balance wheels and the clutch spring plus two almost identical sky-blue dials with grenage finish. Only the brand’s prints on it are different. On the left the AS logo, on the right the brand’s name. These sub dials are mounted on an open-worked anthracite PVD-colored main plate for a clear and attractive contrast.

Two time zones in one view

You can read the time in two time zones simultaneously. So, on the left dial you can set the time for the zone you are in, on the right the zone you want to track as well. Or the other way around. The crown at the 8 o’clock position adjusts the time on the left dial, the crown at 4 the right dial. The crown at 4 also winds the whole movement.

Partly integrated in the dials are two engraved and mirror-polished day/night indicators. Both depicting the sun and moon, and both are mounted on a 24-hour wheel that is directly connected to the movement.

The Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition has a power reserve of 42 hours

The technical part inside, the manual wound Armin Strom caliber ARF22, is as interesting as its outside. There are two independent, symmetrically mirrored oscillators that operate in anti-phase. By a natural phenomenon of resonance, they synchronized automatically and become mirror images of each other.

Two separate gear trains drive the independent time displays and there are two mainspring barrels providing a total power reserve of 42 hours.

Breguet teeth, what are they?

But there is more. This Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition has a ratchet click system, visible on the dial side, for winding the watch. This is a three-dimensional ratchet mechanism that is connected to a pinion between the two barrels. When winding, the barrels are loaded more evenly.

And to make it even more complicated, the two-part system has a bottom gear with so called Breguet teeth. A specific design of gear teeth named after the famous watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet with characteristics contributing to the smooth and efficient functioning of the movement.

High-end finish for more visual impact

This bottom gear is fixed to the main plate, and a top element with a spring connected to the axis. The result is a more precise engagement and disengagement of the winding mechanism. And more consistent performance, better energy transfer and reduced friction. Are you still there?

The finish is another highlight, also on the back. The twin balance bridge is from steel with a flat surface, hand-polished with circular graining, perlage and Geneva stripes. The colors, anthracite and silvery tones, increase the visual impact even more.

This Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition comes with two alligator leather straps. One in matt grey with sky-blue stitching and an additional light grey with pearl-grey stitching. Both with an 18-karat white gold pin buckle. The watch is limited to 25 pieces.
