This Ateliers deMonaco Tourbillon Ronde d’Or – Wat Arun is dedicated to the most famous temple of Thailand, the Wat Arun. It means “Temple of Dawn”, it is situated in the Bangkok Yai district of Bangkok and it is a Buddhist temple. And the official name is Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan. The moment of release celebrates the Loy Krathong festival in Thailand. It is a yearly event on the night of the twelfth lunar month to celebrate the end of the rain season.

In 2008 Atelier deMonaco was founded by the owner of Frederique Constant, who also owned Alpina Watches. From a marketing perspective, it is obvious that Alpina serves a younger crowd with entry-level sporty watches. Frederique Constant serves more mature customers with classic designs and advanced techniques. With the Atelier deMonaco brand the company opens a new market for them with extreme high-end time pieces. A clear strategy that covers the watch market by the Frederique Constant Holding in which all three brands were held. In 2016 the Japanese Citizen Group acquires Frederique Constant Holding and all of its brands.

There is only one Ateliers deMonaco Tourbillon Ronde d’Or – Wat Arun

Back to the watch. It is the same time piece as the Ateliers deMonaco Tourbillon Ronde d’Or – Grand Prix de Monaco 1966, but with another dial. This dial is composed of three layers of solid 18K white gold, all applied by hand. Which costs around 200 hours of work. It is hand-engraved with the four-corner prang of the Wat Arun temple which makes it a one of a kind creation. So, that’s the reason why this watch is limited to one piece only. Price on request.

The tourbillon, with sapphire bridge, can be seen through a large opening at the 6 o’clock position. The patented “eXtreme Precision 1 minute” tourbillon has a tolerance between 0-2 seconds per 24 hours; Ateliers deMonaco claims it is the most precise tourbillon in the world.

The in-house caliber dMc-980 is based on a self-winding tourbillon from Frederique Constant (caliber FC-980) with silicon escapement), clearly visible through the transparent case back. Now that is synergy.
