One of the world’s most known superhero’s is captured in this Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon Spider-Man. It is a limited edition of 250 pieces and it also has a one-off that comes in full-black. We’ll talk about that later. Super-Man on or in a watch is the result of the collaboration between Audemars Piguet and Marvel, part of Disney, that started already in 2021.
The AP caliber 2948 gets a special treatment to make it as skeleton as possible resulting in the caliber 2974. It’s a fully open-worked hand-wound movement with a power reserve of 72 hours. And it even has space enough to house Spider-Man, who is kind of breaking through the movement.
Spider-Man is made of white gold and hand-painted in his red and blue costume and lives in a 42-millimeter titanium case. To keep it all a bit mysterious most of the details are black. Like the ceramic bezel and crown, the PVD-coated gold hands, details of the movement and the straps. It strips the risk of the watch being a bit childish. The six-figure price helps with that as well.
Did you notice Spider-Man’s feet at the back of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon Spider-Man?
The one-off is called the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon Black Suit Spider-Man and was auctioned for charity. AP supports the non-profit organizations First Book and Ashoka. Both work to support and encourage young people to help creating a change in this world when it comes to subjects as education and awareness.
During an event in Dubai the Spider-Man versions were revealed and the one-off was auctioned – it is whispered for $ 6.2 million – together with two other pieces, raising a total of $ 8.5 million for charity.
Where the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon Spider-Man has a titanium case, the Black Suit version has a white gold case. Furtermore it is engraved with green luminescent patterns in hybrid ceramic. This creates nice light-up effects in the dark. The two other differences with the ‘normal’ version are Spider-Man himself: he’s wearing a black suit in this one-off. And the straps differ. For sure, the new owner will enjoy it.
