In collaboration with the international fashion designer Matthew Williams, AP introduces the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph 42 mm x 1017 ALYX 9SM. Accessible with an option of white gold or yellow gold, designed by Matthew Williams and limited to 76 pieces each.
Matthew Williams is a fashion designer, and his brand is called 1017 ALYX 9SM. He sells fashion of “high quality materials mixed with subversive culture and modern craftsmanship”. The company was founded in New York City and later relocated to Milan, Italy. He does several collaborations, this one with Audemars Piguet is one of them. And not only this 42-millimeter chronograph but there is also a comparable model in 41 millimeters and 37 millimeters.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph 42 mm x 1017 ALYX 9SM has a power reserve of 70 hours
The Royal Oak 1017 ALYX 9SM is housed in a 42-millimeter case and features a minimalist vertical satin-finishing dial with no counters or markers. It is a chronograph, the chronograph hands and running seconds normally on sub dials are a bit floating. As there are no sub dials for the small hands at 6, 9, and 12 o’clock. It looks cool but it is kind of useless if you want to measure time intervals. You can also see a tiny date-window placed at 3 o’clock.
It is driven by an automatic Audemars Piguet caliber 4404, with an integrated flyback chronograph and a power reserve of 70 hours. To complete the watch, the brand supplies an 18k white gold or yellow gold bracelet, with 18K white gold or yellow gold AP folding clasp. Along with it comes an additional black rubber interchangeable strap.
There is also a smaller chronograph with this design: the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph 41 mm x 1017 ALYX 9SM. It has another caliber, without date, and is available in full yellow gold or yellow gold with stainless steel. The latter is a one-off by the way. And should you like a smaller version without chronograph, also by Matthew William, go for the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding 37 mm x 1017 ALYX 9SM. Only available in full yellow gold.
