AP introduces a new metal, Sand Gold, with the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Openworked 41 mm. It’s not a newly discovered gold but a mix of solid gold, copper, and palladium. Palladium has the appearance of a soft silver-white metal that resembles platinum, the reason why it somehow displays a color between white and pink gold, depending on the ray of light. And when you mix it with copper and gold, you’ll get this soft sand tone.

The warm shade of the sand gold appears on the case, bezel, bracelet and parts of the mechanism. The case has an octagonal bezel, just like the other Royal Oak watches, here with an open-worked dial. The inner bezel and open-worked bridges are also colored in sand gold through a galvanic process. The visible components are finished horizontally and vertically to accentuate the movement’s depth, while the brushed and polished angles enhance the play of light.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Openworked 41 mm Sand Gold has a power reserve of 65 hours

On the dial, you can see the barrel and flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock, executed in a rhodium tone. The applied hour-markers and hands are white gold with super-luminova. The automatic Audemars Piguet caliber 2972 released in 2022 for the Royal Oak’s 50th anniversary drives the time piece. It has a rhodium-toned 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight and delivers a power reserve of 65 hours.

The Sand Gold Flying Tourbillon comes on a 18-carat sand gold bracelet. It is secured with an AP folding clasp. This Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Openworked Only Watch Edition is the same model, however a unique piece and executed in white ceramic.
