If you have ever looked at the cockpit of an aircraft, you will recognize the dial of this Bell & Ross BR 03 Horizon immediately. If you have ever wandered what this instrument is, it is an artificial horizon indicator. And B&R have transformed this instrument in a dial for their BR 03 model.
In an aircraft the artificial horizon indicator is a figurative representation of the aircrafts position in the sky related to the earth. It has the form of a sphere which is divided by a line. The top, here in blue, represents the sky, the bottom part, here in black, represents the earth. The permanent red line represents the aircraft’s wings. The outer dial graduation indicates the aircraft’s lateral tilt angle, while the center shows the pitch.
How to read the time on the BR 03 Horizon?
The minutes and seconds are relatively easy. The minutes are indicated by the thin white hand, the seconds are indicated by the black and white striped hand. So far so good. But now the hours. These are indicated by the black triangle which is printed on a disc forming the dial.
The upper part of this disc is light blue – which turns with the hours – and luminescent. The black part of the disc has no other function then to symbolize the earth. It means that the central seconds can be followed by the striped white part of that hand. As the black part will disappear on the black background of the dial disc.
The Bell & Ross BR 03 Horizon has a power reserve of 54 hours
The movement of the 41-millimeter black ceramic Bell & Ross BR 03 Horizon is the Bell & Ross caliber BR-CAL.327. This is based on the automatic Sellita caliber SW300-1 b, with an adjusted hour hand and a power reserve of 54 hours. (The original Sellita is 56 hours.)
The case back of the watch is closed, and it comes on a black rubber strap with steel pin buckle with matt black PVD. Additionally you will get an orange synthetic fabric strap with Velcro closure. The model is limited to 999 pieces.
