A pilot with motorsport connections, the Bell & Ross BR-X5 Racing combines high-tech materials for a lightweight result. Of course, it has the brand’s signature “circle in the square” case that founders Bruno Belamich (Bell) and Carlos A. Rosillo (Ross) apply on almost all their models. Here with a dial that is inspired by racing car dashboards.

The dial is matt black fumé glass with checkerboard seconds graduation that indicates to a quarter of a second. Furthermore, matt black hour and minute hands with white super-luminova, and a white seconds hand with red tip. The white Arabic hour numerals also have white super-luminova, and the hour markers are inscribed in the glass dial.

Hollowed-out case

To keep the watch as light as possible, the case middle has a hollowed-out architecture while maintaining its strength. The case material is titanium, the inlay of the bezel is from woven carbon fiber and there is an inner bezel with a minutes scale. At 3 o’clock is a date window, marked with a white arrow, and at 9 is a dashboard-style power reserve indicator.

The sandwich case measures 41 millimeters, and four titanium screws tie all the layers together. Among two titanium plates with a black DLC monobloc container in between that holds the movement.

The Bell & Ross BR-X5 Racing has a power reserve of 70 hours

The movement of the Bell & Ross BR-X5 Racing is the Bell & Ross caliber BR-CAL.323. It is an automatic developed by movement manufacturer Kenissi (Est. 2016). Kenissi makes high-end movements passing ETA or Sellita, with more accuracy and more power reserve. This 323 is COSC certified and comes with a 5-year warranty. Kenissi also works for Tudor, by the way, who is also partly owner of the brand, Chanel (who has a 20% stake since 2018), and brands like Breitling and TAG Heuer.

The BR-X5 Racing is limited to 500 pieces and comes either with a titanium bracelet or a black rubber strap. The first is about a 1,000 more expensive. Both have a micro-blasted titanium folding buckle.
