The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 3 is the third Fifty Fathoms model to celebrate the 70^th anniversary of this diver’s watch. The first is the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 1 Series I, II and III, a limited edition of 210 pieces. Then there is the  Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 2 – Tech Gombessa, which is not a limited edition. And now, there is the Act 3 influenced by the 1950s MIL-SPEC (Military Specifications) model used by military forces at that time. This new model is limited to 555 pieces.

The case of this diver is made of a special blend of gold and bronze: 9ct bronze-gold. This is an alloy with 37.5% gold, 50% copper (with this allowing it to be called “bronze”), a bit of silver, palladium and gallium. This material gives a pink hue, is nice to wear on the skin (pure bronze isn’t) and does not oxidate because of the percentage of gold in it. The case is satin brushed and has a diameter of 41.30 millimeter and a thickness of 13.30 millimeter. It features a matt black dial with hour markers and hands filled with vintage super-luminova. The unidirectional rotating bezel with black ceramic insert displays a diving scale, also with vintage super-luminova. A serious diving watch which can go down deep into the ocean for at least 300 meters / 990 feet.

On the dial, just above the 6 o’clock position is a moisture indicator. A relict from the early diving times when divers swapped watches after a dive and should be able to check if the watertightness is still working. If not, the moisture indicator changes color, to let you know there is a defect. A feature that was included as a part of the requirements of the US Navy for instance in the 1950s.

Inside the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 3 is an automatic Blancpain caliber 1154.P2 which can be admired through a sapphire case back. It delivers a power reserve of 100 hours.

This special timepiece comes on a two-tone NATO strap manifesting the color code of the original watch. It is made from fishing nets recovered from the oceans, showing a strong connection with the sea and the importance of taking care of it.
