The Fifty Fathoms was originally presented in 1953 as a military spec diver for the French navy. Already in 1956, the brand launched a more daily-use version called the Bathyscaphe, named after a free-diving, self-propelled deep-sea submersible. The day and month are indicated by an aperture just under the 12 o’clock position. The date is indicated by hand with a red arched tip encircling the date on the dial. The central seconds hand also has a red tip but it’s longer than the date hand so they won’t disturb each other.
