Nine new references for the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune. Which you can bring down to three new dial colors, each with three strap/bracelet options. Available with a sunburst black, blue or green dial.
The Fifty Fathoms was originally presented in 1953 as a military spec diver for the French navy. Already in 1956, the brand launched a more daily-use version called the Bathyscaphe, named after a free-diving, self-propelled deep-sea submersible. Which is not the same as a submarine, but it comes close.
Fifty Fathoms with triple calendar
The main feature of this model is the complete calendar, also known as a triple calendar. It’s a bit confusing but a complete calendar is a watch with day, date, month that doesn’t recognize the lengths of each month. So, you have to adjust that yourself. And here the complete calendar also sports a moon phase indication with a 29.5 days scale, the number of days to change from new moon to new moon. (The moon actually takes 27.3 days to orbit the Earth, but that’s another story.)
The day and month are indicated by an aperture just under the 12 o’clock position. The date is indicated by hand with a red arched tip encircling the date on the dial. The central seconds hand also has a red tip but it’s longer than the date hand so they won’t disturb each other.
The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune has a power reserve of 72 hours
Within the 43.6-millimeter black ceramic case you will find the Blancpain caliber 6654.P.4, an automatic with two barrels. Which is good for 72 hours of power reserve. It has a silicon balance-spring, was already launched in 1983 and has a dark oscillating weight. The sapphire case back reveals the movement, but it is showing more plates than gears.
The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune comes on a sailcloth fabric strap or a NATO strap with pin buckle. And of course, you can also go for the case matching black ceramic bracelet with folding clasp.
