In addition to the minute repeater and perpetual calendar, the equation of time is without a doubt a top three complication. The new Breguet Marine Equation Marchante 5887 not only houses that complication, but also two others that are equally impressive.
But first of all, the equation of time. Let’s explain what the complication of time does. This complication shows the difference between mean solar time – regular time – and true solar time. Mean solar time may show a discrepancy with true solar time ranging from minus 16 minutes to plus 14 minutes. To be more precise: only four days a year, the two times are exactly the same.
The Breguet Marine Equation Marchante 5887 has two of the most high-end complications
Breguet succeeds in making this complication very easy to read. It simultaneously indicates civil time and true time using two separate minutes hands.
The running solar hand, adorned with a facetted golden sun, provides a direct reading of solar time minutes. Both are quicker to read and thus more user-friendly than other watches with the same complication.
Tourbillon and perpetual calendar as well
It doesn’t stop there within that 43.9-millimeter platinum or rose gold case. Breguet also offers two ‘extra’ complications. A tourbillon and a perpetual calendar. All are situated on an artfully decorated dial with a new wave guilloche pattern.
But perhaps the backside is even more impressive. The movement bridges have been micro-engraved with a ship of the French Royal Navy, the Royal Louis. It makes the Breguet Marine Equation Marchante 5887 just as technically impressive as it is artistically.
