Even if you don’t fly balloons this Breitling Aerospace B70 Orbiter might be a very handy watch for you. It is revealed by the brand to celebrate their 140th anniversary, and it is also the 25th anniversary of the first nonstop balloon flight around the world. Done during the Breitling Orbiter 3 mission.
Now, 140 years of Breitling means party, so expect more models this year to commemorate this moment. But the new B70 model is more focused on balloons as the watch even contains a piece of the original balloon. A mission that was sponsored by Breitling.
An Orbiter 3 capsule dial
The case is 43 millimeters, from titanium, with a thickness of nearly 13 millimeters thick. It features a bright-orange dial, a reference to the color of the Orbiter 3 capsule. And the dial combines analogue with digital as it has regular hour and minute hands. However, all its extra functions are displayed on two digital LCD apertures.
Inside the watch is a thermo-compensated quartz, the Breitling caliber B70. It is a serieus movement, COSC certified, and offers all you want. A 1/100th of a second chronograph (flyback and split-time), alarm, GMT, perpetual calendar, electronic tachymeter and an End of Life indicator. As the batteries will last about two years.
Where is the balloon in the Breitling Aerospace B70 Orbiter?
The piece of balloon can be seen through the transparent case back. This silver piece kind of visually functions as a shield for the movement, which you cannot see. The sapphire on the back is printed with the Breitling Orbiter 3 mission logo. And the inscription “First nonstop flight around the world 25th anniversary”. The Breitling Aerospace B70 Orbiter is available with a titanium bracelet (approx. + 200) or a black rubber strap. Both with a folding clasp.
The model is not a limited edition, as these balloons for flying around the world are huge.
