You probably know the Navitimer as it is one of Breitling’s most popular models. More or less since the launch in 1952. Today, there are seven different models in several colors and with several case materials. This Breitling Navitimer Rattrapante is new and features Breitling’s caliber B03 with a split-seconds chronograph, also known as rattrapante.

A rattrapante, or double chronograph, measures intermediate times without interrupting the ongoing measurement of a longer elapsing interval. So, it measures two times at the same time, split times. Rattrapante chronographs have two (mostly) large seconds hands: one for the intermediate time and one for the ongoing time.

The Breitling Navitimer Rattrapante comes in gold or steel

For Breitling, this Breitling Navitimer Rattrapante is not the first split-seconds chronograph they have ever made: already in 1944 they launched the Breitling Duograph. Although that model didn’t feature an in-house caliber. This Breitling Navitimer Rattrapante does. Breitling developed a 28-part rattrapante complication that is easy to service. The module can be totally removed if needed, or replaced. And as they have redesigned certain basic parts, the complication is more accurate and uses less energy thanks to some new innovations.

The Breitling Navitimer Rattrapante comes in two case variants: steel or gold. The latter is limited to 250 pieces. Both have a bronze-colored dial where the split-seconds chronograph shows a quarter of a second and has 30-minute and 12-hour totalizers. Like all Navitimers the dial is pretty busy with information and scales with which you can (but never will) make calculations about time, speed and distance. The Breitling Navitimer Rattrapante is an interesting, high-tech mechanical chronograph with extra complication fans of the brand will surely love.

A funny detail: the Breitling logo adorning the chronograph hand is split into two part. It only forms a whole when both chrono hands are together. Watch it in the video below.
