Seventy years after the launch of the first Breitling Superocean the Swiss brand reveals a new model: the Breitling Superocean Heritage II. This one is going to replace the Breitling Superocean Heritage.

The Superocean was one of the first professional diving watches back in the 1950s and due to its relatively attractive price adopted by people who used it for leisure diving. This new Breitling Superocean Heritage II still has a lot of design elements of the 1957 model. Look at the hands, triangular for the hours and lozenge-like for the minutes, like the original model. And the new one is almost the same as the outgoing model, with some improvements.

The Breitling Superocean Heritage II is available in 42 and 46 millimeters

The main change is the movement. Breitling’s recently started partnership with Tudor, Rolex’ little sister, resulted in a new caliber B20. The former B20 was based on the ETA Valjoux 7750, this new B20 is a Tudor MT5612 which can also be found in the Tudor Heritage Black Bay for instance. It is a chronometer (COSC certified) and offers a power-reserve of 70 hours.

Other changes for the Breitling Superocean Heritage II are the shape of the lugs, crown, shape of the hands and markers. And the bezel used to be from steel, now it has a ceramic layer on top. It provides better matching colors for the bezel and dial.

Breitling offers two case size for the Breitling Superocean Heritage II: 42 and 46 millimeters. The dial has four base colors: black, silver, blue and bronze. The bezel can have four different colors and there are loads of different straps. At the website of Breitling you can configure just the one you like. And if you are looking for more than a three-handed watch with date functions, you can always go for the Breitling Superocean Heritage II Chronographe. Which is only available in 46 millimeters. Or try to score a 1957 Superocean.
