With the Cartier Ballon Bleu Carbon the so called “jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers” takes another walk on the dark side.
Numerous royals and celebrities have a Cartier time piece strapped on their wrist. Kate Middleton for example has a Cartier Ballon de Bleu. Founded in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier the house is built on luxury and tradition. Their first wristwatch, the Cartier Santos was made in 1904 and is still sold today. Soon other timeless pieces followed like The Baignoire and the Tortue models. For a house as old and exclusive as Cartier is there a need to follow the trends?
Of course the Cartier Ballon Bleu Carbon also has the blue cabochon-shaped spinel
At Cartier they could no longer resist the carbon/black watch trend that’s been circling the scene for a while now. Together with the iconic Santos 100 Cartier’s Ballon Bleu now comes in pitch black. The watch features an ADLC (Amorphous Diamond Like Carbon) case which measures a 42.1 millimetres. The coal black dial has clear, contrasting white Roman numerals. A radiating guilloché pattern enhances the dial as well as the sword-shaped luminous-coated hands.
Black or not, the Cartier Ballon Bleu Carbon features the authentic and distinct fluted winding crown with Cartier’s trademark: the blue cabochon-shaped spinel. The watch is powered by the automatic 1847 MC Manufacture movement. The black calfskin strap fastens with a ADLC-coated, double-adjustable folding buckle and integrates beautifully into the case lugs.
