The Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 XP TimeForArt is a one-of-a-kind model that combines traditional craftsmanship and modern watchmaking. This edition is an artistic showcase with a unique straw marquetry dial, crafted in-house using a centuries-old technique.
The dial is crafted from rye straw grown in Burgundy, France. Artisans split the straw and flatten each strand by hand. They use a scalpel to cut the straw and arrange it into a unique pattern. The intricate process behind the dial requires 60 hours of work, completed with meticulous care.
Lucent steel case
It is housed in a 41-millimeter case from Chopard’s Lucent steel, an alloy created with 80% recycled stainless steel. The material also possesses a unique brilliance achieved through a special remelting process. Here it is only 8 millimeters thick, with a slim bezel and polished sides. This design allows for a large opening onto the dial, emphasizing the craftsmanship on display.
The watch features a crown engraved with a compass rose, a signature design element of the Alpine Eagle line. And the bezel contains eight functional screws, while the dial’s hour markers and hands are enhanced with super-luminova. The glare-proof sapphire crystal offers a clear view of the intricate details of the straw marquetry.
The Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 XP TimeForArt has a power reserve of 65 hours
Inside the Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 XP TimeForArt runs Chopard’s caliber L.U.C 96.17-L, a self-winding movement of just 3.3 millimeters thick. All for the slim profile of the case. It features a 22-carat gold micro-rotor that winds two stacked barrels for a 65-hour power reserve.
This Alpine Eagle 41 XP is part of the TimeForArt initiative, an event that focuses on the intersection of watchmaking and contemporary visual arts. Chopard’s contribution is a watch that bridges both worlds. The auction will feature other timepieces, like this Ressence Type 12 SHA Shantell Martin, with all proceeds supporting contemporary artists through the Swiss Institute. The auction is on December 7th, 2024, as part of The Phillips New York Watch Auction, in association with Bacs & Russo.
