If you pair a case design from the 1970s with an ultramodern quartz movement, you can get this Citizen Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer Blue. Last year a gold colored version was released to celebrate 50 years of the so called bullhead case, a case with pushers and crown on top. So, it looks like it has horns, and that is why cases like this are called “bullhead”. And horns in Japanese are “tsuno” (singular) so bullhead cases are also nicknamed tsuno cases.

This Promaster not only has the crown on top, and the pushers on both sides next to it. As at 5 o’clock there is a secondary crown that is also a pusher for setting and activating the alarm. And there is a pusher recessed into the side of the case at 7 o’clock to reset the whole watch. A sort of Ctrl-Alt-Del function.

Functions of the Citizen Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer

The Tsuno here is 43.3 millimeters, crafted from super titanium, with a sunburst blue dial combined with black-ish sub dials and a black flange. All full of functionality. The flange has a tachymeter scale, and there is a chronograph accurate up to 1/20th of a second. It has a 60-minute counter that looks like a speedometer at 12 o’clock and at 6 o’clock is the 12-hour totalizer. Small seconds can be found at 3 o’clock.

Between the 1 and 2 o’clock position is a date window and just under the small seconds is the on/off indicator for the alarm. Which you can set with the fourth central hand, which is black, with a white luminescent triangle tip. Then at the 9 o’clock position is a power reserve cluster that looks like a fuel gauge.

The Citizen Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer Blue has a solar powered quartz

Inside the Citizen Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer Blue is the Citizen caliber E210, a so called eco-drive movement. It charges by light and fully charged it runs for about 8 months. It doesn’t sport as much functions as the Citizen Promaster Sky Satellite Wave GPS for instance, as it has another purpose: racing.

For that reason, the strap is a black perforated leather one. The model is limited to 2,500 pieces.
