The Eberhard & Co. 8 Jours Grande Taille celebrates the technical ingenuity with a bigger, bolder version of the 8 Jours watch. And why not? According to Eberhard & Co. the 8 Jours was the first mechanical wristwatch with an 8-day power reserve. The first 8 Jours watch was launched in 1997, and a slightly bigger version was released in 2008.

Unique with the 8 Jours watch is the patented technique Eberhard uses for the massive power-reserve. Instead of multiple barrels the watch has two overlapping springs. One with the standard length of 30 centimeters while the second spring counts 1.25 meters.

This new Eberhard & Co. 8 Jours Grande Taille comes in pink gold or stainless steel with a black or white dial

This piece of craftsmanship is proudly shown at the back of the watch. Through a sapphire crystal peephole, you can see the spring doing its magic. With a perlage coated blue “8” (this detail has a cognac color with the 18k rose gold version) shaped bridge adding a 3D effect.

The watch has a 41-millimeters case and comes in different styles keeping everybody happy. For starters, there is a model with a stainless steel case but there is also an 18k pink gold version. And maybe you choose a silver dial with Roman numerals painted on them. Or you might fall for the white plate dial with painted Arabic numerals. And what about a monochrome dial with applied Roman numerals?

Some might call the crown large, but it’s easy to wind. Not unimportant as the 8-day power reserve takes a little bit more winding than you’re used to. Equipped with a 19-millimeters black crocodile leather wristband Eberhard claims the 8 Jours Grande Taille is “more a watch to admire rather than to read”.
