Two new Deep Blue models

You are looking at The Favre Leuba Deep Blue Revival and Renaissance, two comparable models that only differ a little. As the Revival is 39 millimeters and just one model, in stainless steel. While the Renaissance is 40 millimeters, stainless steel and available in three colors, each with either a steel bracelet or a colored rubber strap.

Both models are a direct descendant of the first Deep Blue the brand launched in the 1960s, when the name of the brand was Manufacture d’Horlogerie Favre-Leuba S.A. Here you can read about the history of Favre-Leuba, nowadays called Favre Leuba, without the hyphen.

History of the Favre-Leuba Deep Blue

In 1964 Favre-Laube launches the Deep Blue, a true dive watch with a water resistance of 200 meters / 660 feet. It is believed that this is one of the first divers to reach these depths. At the end of the 1950s Blancpain releases their Fifty Fathoms but that model could go up to just under a 100 meters / 330 feet. And in 1965 Nivada Grenchen launches their Depthmaster reaching a 1,000 meters / 3,300 feet.

Nevertheless, the Favre-Leuba Deep Blue becomes a valued diver. It is 39 millimeters, stainless steel, has radium lume and an acrylic bezel, and an automatic ETA inside. With a dial that has this cool crosshair-like design. You can still find nice examples for about 3 to 4k, which underlines the historical value of the Deep Blue.

Remake of the original Deep Blue

Both the Favre Leuba Deep Blue Revival and Renaissance are a pretty nice remake of the original Deep Blue. Sure, the Revival comes the closest with its 39-millimeter size, and its crosshair dial and color scheme with a sunray grey dial.

The Renaissance model is available in blue, green and grey with a so called two-part sandwich dial. Behind the colored dial lays another dial in white. The crosshair and indexes are cut out from the top dial giving the dial more depth.

The Favre Leuba Deep Blue Revival and Renaissance have a power reserve of 68 hours

The movement of the Favre Leuba Deep Blue Revival is the La Joux-Perret caliber G100, probably the standard version as it is not specified, and the case back is closed. Still a solid one, with a power reserve of 68 hours.

The movement of the Favre Leuba Deep Blue Renaissance is the La Joux-Perret caliber G100, version A012. LJP calls this A012 type a grade “Soignée Vis Bleues” which is the highest grade they deliver for the caliber G100. It has blued screws (Vis Bleues), Côte de Genève finish and diamond beveling. The custom rotor is skeletonized with an engraved monogram, the power reserve is 68 hours.

The provided prices are for the Renaissance on a durable and long-lasting type of rubber. A stainless steel bracelet adds about a 100 to the price, if you go for the Revival, it adds 25 to 50 to the price. Here you can find more articles about new Favre Leuba watches.
