Does this Favre-Leuba Raider Harpoon looks a bit weird to you? The hours hand seems to be shrunken, the indexes are out of sync and what’s this nuclear sign in the middle? Well, this diver has an alternative way of showing the time.
The time is displayed by a minute hand and hour indicator. The hours are on a luminescent disc rotating around the perimeter of the dial. So, the minute hand does not only show the minutes on the black or blue dial but also points to the hours at the rotating disc. The seconds are indicated by a little triangle-shaped hand on a disc in the middle. That disc also indicates whether the movement is operating or not. It’s not easy to read the time in a split-second but you will probably get used to it. Watch the video below the specs and you’ll see how it works.
The Favre-Leuba Raider Harpoon has a 46-millimeter case in steel or gunmetal
The design of the 46-millimeter case and the tetradecagon (a fourteen-sided polygon) bezel is inspired by divers from the late 1960s and early 1970s. Especially the Favre-Leuba Bathy 160 from 1968. Its size, its readability (when you are used to it), its unidirectional rotating bezel with 20-minute scale and its helium valve for pressure balance makes it a perfect watch for professional diving.
You can choose from a steel case or a gunmetal PVD coated steel case as long as you want the black dial with orange accents. The blue dial is only available in a steel case. Both with a variety of straps and bracelets. The Favre-Leuba Raider Harpoon houses an unknown Swiss automatic movement. Favre-Leuba added their own module in order to create the rotating hour disc.
Do you like the model and design but not the way of reading the time? Go for the Favre-Leuba Raider Deep Blue. Same designs and color schemes, but with conventional hands. And only 2 millimeters smaller. Despite the innovative time display we would go for the old-fashioned way.
