The Gerard Charles Maestro 8.0 Squelette Rose Gold is another variant on the Maestro model that was launched in 2006. Although the first skeletons in the series were launched in 2022. For sure it features the remarkable and asymmetrical Maestro case. It is a design by Charles, inspired by a Roman monument from the 17th century designed by Francesco Borromini. The brand doesn’t specify which monument but take a look at the facade of the Church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane in Rome. The shape is the result of a square and an octagon with a “smile” at the lower part.
This Maestro measures 39 x 41 millimeters and is executed in a rose gold case combined with a stoned grey color. Not only for the strap, but also for the dial. The dial is skeletonized with sandblasted bridges that are polished with anglage and anthracite NAC finishes. Anglage is a chamfering technique to create very sharp angles and edges. And NAC is an electrolysis procedure of the acid based material N-acetylcysteine that creates an anthracite effect on metals for example. This is what gives this stone colored effect on the metal parts of the movement.
The Gerard Charles Maestro 8.0 Squelette Rose Gold has a power reserve of 50 hours
The movement is the automatic Gerard Charles caliber GCA 5482 with a thickness of just 2.6 millimeters. It’s resistant to shocks (5 G) and has a decentered micro-rotor in rose gold delivering a power reserve of 60 hours. The rotor can be seen from both sides, so both sides are decorated. Colimaçon (snailing or spiral effect) on one side, and a honeycomb motif on the other. And while most Maestro’s have the crown on the left – it should give more comfort using it when sporting – this one has the crown on the right. Perfect for left-handed sporters.
This new Gerard Charles Maestro 8.0 Squelette Rose Gold comes on a stoned grey vulcanised rubber strap. It has a Clous de Paris finish to the top side, and Gerald Charles logo tapisserie to rear. It is secured with a polished 18K rose gold 4N pin buckle.
