Another limited sunrise edition, the Grand Seiko Elegance SBGA499 Hokata Peaks has a color that is connected to the sun and mountains. This time it is the color of the autumn sunrise of the Hotaka mountain range, where Grand Seiko has one of its factories. Earlier we’ve seen this Grand Seiko Sport SBGC275 Caliber 9R 20th Anniversary Limited Edition colored like the regular sunrise there. And we’ve also seen the morning glow of the Hotaka mountain range in summer with the Grand Seiko Sport SBGE305 Caliber 9R 20th Anniversary Limited Edition. So, the autumn sunrise is new, winter and fall are yet to come?

This new Elegance SBGA499 sports the same movement as the blue or pink Grand Seiko Heritage SBGA507 and SBGA509. But now with a bright red dial, and a copper-pink power reserve indicator between the 7 and 8 o’clock position. At 3 o’clock is a date aperture with a steel colored border.

The movement of the Grand Seiko Elegance SBGA499 Hokata Peaks is the Grand Seiko caliber 9R65. It’s a spring drive movement, so it has some electric power without having a battery, it’s an automatic, and the power reserve is 72 hours. And it has an accuracy of ±1 second per day.

This Elegance SBGA499 comes on a stainless steel bracelet with three-fold clasp with push button release. The model is limited to 1,300 pieces only.

Limited availability

As the brand often offers models only in certain markets, you can find the model on Seiko’s US website and Seiko’s UK website, but not in Europe. Although UK is part of Europe. The latter is a sort of boutique website, with a different web address. All sometimes pretty confusing for potential customers.

It’s 2024 so it might be time to fix this bug once and for all, and launch models worldwide, just like any other premium brand does. On one website please. Anyway, just go to their websites and try to find the watch if you want one. As it is an excellent red quality watch.
