The H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Chinese Calendar Limited Edition joins the Endeavor collection with a perpetual calendar concept that was revealed in 2015. The Endeavour Chinese Calendar is one of their notable creations, featuring a unique complication that incorporates traditional Chinese elements. It fuses the Chinese lunisolar and the solar Gregorian calendars, showcasing the 12 Chinese zodiac signs and moon phases accurately for 12 years without any adjustments needed. The model is limited to 100 pieces only.
The Endeavour Chinese Calendar has a case of red gold measuring 40 millimeters. The dial features the months and days of the Chinese calendar and the days of the Gregorian calendar. It also displays the moon phases, and the signs of the zodiac that are related with each Chinese year.
The Chinese lunar calendar uses the moon’s phases, with months of 29 or 30 days, to match the moon’s 29.53-day journey around the Earth. A lunar year is around 354.36 days, about 10.88 days less than a solar year. In a pure lunar calendar, months shift earlier each year.
The Endeavour Chinese Calendar needs service every 12 years in order to run correctly
To match it with the solar year, calendars like the Chinese one add a 13th “embolismic” month every two to three years, keeping it in line with the seasons. The H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Chinese Calendar Limited Edition handles this by including the extra month, managing to show the lunisolar calendar info accurately for 12 years without adjustments. As a Chinese perpetual calendar isn’t possible due to the lack of repeated cycles.
In other words, the Endeavour Chinese Calendar will consider things like the Chinese lunar months, leap months, the Chinese zodiac animal for the year, moon phases, and Gregorian calendar dates for 12 years. After this period, the cams will be changed for the next 12-year period when you bring in the watch for service.
The H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Chinese Calendar Limited Edition has a power reserve of 72 hours
All this calendar technics are driven by the automatic H. Moser & Cie. caliber HMC 210 which can be admired through its transparent case back. The 18K gold oscillating weight engraved with the H. Moser hallmark is also visible. It beats at its high frequency of 3 Hz delivering a power reserve of 72 hours.
The H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Chinese Calendar Limited Edition comes on a hand-stitched brown alligator leather strap. It is secured with a 5N red gold folding clasp, engraved with the Moser logo.
