The Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Air-Glaciers 42 mm is created with direct input from the helicopter pilots from Air-Glaciers. Which is a helicopter rescue organization operating in the Swiss Alps. They carry out more than 3,000 missions per year from their six bases, and since 2022 they have a partnership with Hamilton.

Together they designed a watch that would be the most perfect for the pilots. So, titanium was chosen for the case, as it is light and hypoallergenic. The size of the case is 42 millimeters, and it sports a clear blue dial with white indexes and numerals, and large partly open-worked hands. The seconds hand is inspired by a helicopter rotor blade.

Baumuster B dial look-a-like

The layout of the dial looks to be inspired by the so called Baumuster B design. This design was probably developed in the 1930s and used for military watches, especially pilots. It has a large minute/second track on the outer ring of the dial and an hour track at the center of the dial.

Original Baumuster B designs have a luminescent triangle at the 12 o’clock position, so pilots can quickly determine the correct time in the dark. Hamilton’s specifications for this watch only state that there is super-luminova (the best grade, X1) on the hands. Looking at the photo’s it lacks luminova on the triangle.

The Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Air-Glaciers 42 mm has a power reserve of 80 hours

This Pilot runs on the automatic Hamilton caliber H-30 which is based on the ETA caliber C07.621. Here with a Nivachron balance spring. Apart from the hours, minutes and seconds it also shows the day and date at 3 o’clock.

The Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Air-Glaciers 42 mm comes with two straps. A blue nylon Velcro strap with leather lining and titanium ring and a brown suede nubuck strap.
