Hamilton adds another three new references to the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 38 mm collection, military inspired no-nonsense models. The first new reference is a steel version with white dial, black hands and lime green luminova on a black NATO strap. Only the fabric NATO strap color is new here.
Then there is a steel version with navy blue dial, white hands with beige lume on a dark blue NATO. That dial color is new to the series. Lastly there is a bronze version with a white dial, black hands, light brown lume and a brown calf leather strap. This one has a titanium case back, the steel versions have a steel case back. And the bronze version, already available with a black dial as well, is about 300 more expensive.
The military heritage of the Khaki Field
It’s obvious that the simple and clear design of the dial comes from vintage military watches. Even the case looks to have a bit of an aged surface, kind of grained, which you can see on the photos. And there is not only a 12-hour scale surrounded by a minutes/seconds track, but there is also a 24-hour scale. The Bauhaus-ish typography is typical for this kind of watches, and so is the super-luminova on all markers and all hands.
What’s missing is a clear 12 o’clock marker, check this Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Day-Date to see how that could look like. Sure, it’s more military aviation styled, but if you hang upside down in a dark forest a 12 marker helps to see the time at a glance.
The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 38 mm has a power reserve of 80 hours
The movement of the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 38 mm is the Hamilton caliber H-50. To give it an extra vintage touch (and keep it slim) it is a mechanical hand-wound movement, probably based on the ETA caliber C07.701. Which normally comes with a date complication as well, but with this Khaki Field it is left out.
This watch is one of the most fair priced mechanical military watches on the market. The good thing is that it is also available in 42 millimeters, which adds about 100-140 to the price. Only with white or black dial, however there are plenty of strap colors to choose from. Or go for a bracelet – not very military but if you like it, why not?
