Hautlence, a renowned name in avant-garde independent watchmaking, releases this TV-style Hautlence Sphere Series 2. This innovative timepiece is an evolution of the award-winning Sphere Series 1, which took home the Innovation Prize at the prestigious 2023 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.

With only 28 pieces available, the Sphere Series 2 promises to captivate watch collectors and enthusiasts alike with its monochromatic design and groundbreaking mechanics.

The world’s only spherical jumping hours display

Hautlence has always been at the forefront of challenging traditional notions of watchmaking, and the Sphere Series 2 continues this legacy. Its standout feature is the world’s only spherical jumping hours display. A complex mechanism encased within a polished deep anthracite sphere. The hours are engraved onto the sphere’s plates and filled with white super-luminova for enhanced readability in low-light conditions. Each hour, the sphere rotates along three axes, revealing the next time in a highly animated and precise display.

This mechanical feat is housed in Hautlence’s signature TV-shaped case, like this Hautlence HLXX 20th Anniversary Edition. It measures 43 x 50.8 millimeters. Stainless steel end finished in an anthracite PVD coating for a sleek, modern look. The grained grey dial, paired with black accents, adds to the watch’s futuristic aesthetic. To complete its sporty appearance, the watch comes with a black rubber strap and a notched crown designed for improved grip.

The Hautlence Sphere Series 2 has a power reserve of 72 hours

In addition to the jumping hours, the Sphere Series 2 features a retrograde minute display. Positioned on the right side of the dial, the minute hand follows a 180° arc crafted from sapphire crystal. Beneath this minute track, the inner workings of the gear train are revealed, offering a glimpse of the intricate mechanics that regulate the watch’s movements.

The entire system is powered by the in-house Hautlence caliber A80, a hand-wound mechanical caliber, developed specifically for this watch. This movement not only drives the unique spherical hours display but also ensures a 72-hour power reserve. The caliber is skeletonized, revealing the mainspring of the barrel, and includes a safety mechanism to prevent reverse time setting, ensuring the longevity of the delicate movement.

How we value this Hautlence

With only 28 pieces available worldwide, the Sphere Series 2 is an exclusive offering. By combining modern materials, bold design, and innovative mechanics, Hautlence has created a watch that is as much a piece of contemporary art as it is a functional timekeeper.

Its unique combination of a spherical jumping hour display, retrograde minute hand, and monochromatic design make it an interesting choice. Especially for collectors seeking something truly innovative. But it comes with a hefty 60 to 80k price tag.
