Somehow Hermès Slim D’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel Platine sounds better than thin platinum Hermès perpetual calendar, because that’s what this is. This model was already available in rose gold, now it’s time for a platinum time piece. Although some people still think if you’re making handbags and scarfs, you can’t be a watchmaker. They probably go to work on a horse.
The Quantième Perpétuel Platine houses an automatic caliber H1950 with perpetual calendar module. The H1950 is developed by Vaucher, a Swiss company who also develops movements for other watchmakers. The caliber Hermès uses, is also used for the Richard Mille RM 33-01 and Baume & Mercier Clifton Perpetual Calendar. Besides that, Hermès has a 25 percent stake in Vaucher, amongst other ventures with mainly Swiss companies supplying the watch industry. All centralized in Bienne, Switzerland, where La Montre Hermès S.A. is located.
The Hermès Slim D’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel Platine features an ultra-thin movement with micro-rotor and perpetual calendar module
The perpetual calendar module was developed by Agentor, one of the most renewed Swiss complications specialists. The result of Vaucher’s and Agentor’s work for Hermès is an ultra-thin movement (2.6 millimeters without module, and 4 with perpetual calendar), wound by a micro-rotor. It must have been a challenge to keep the watch this thin, with a micro-rotor and this complication. And look at the hand-beveled H pattern used to finish the plates and bridges.
The moon phase at the 3 o’clock position has a mother of pearl disc and a normal image of the moon (not those childish 1850s smileys you sometimes see). The second time zone is at 6 o’clock with a clear red hand to indicated the hour of the time at home. Just above that is the day and night indicator in a small round aperture. At 9 and 12 o’clock there is the perpetual calendar featuring the months, days and leap year cycle – no adjustments are needed when you keep the watch running.
The Slim d’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel in rose gold was the conservative version. This blue and platinum one is a fresh-looking, subtle designed time piece combined with a high-end movement and traditional features. By the way, did you know Hermès created its first watch in 1912?
