Like most Hublots, this new Hublot Big Bang Unico Green Saxem is bold and executed in cutting-edge material. We have seen concrete, Nespresso cups and sapphire of course. This time it’s called “Saxem”, a material with which the brand is experimenting, consisting of unique and high-tech materials.
It was first introduced in 2019, and we’ve seen models in brigt yellow, pink and lime green over the years. Now it is available in a deeper green version, limited to 100 pieces.
What is Saxem?
Saxem is Hublot’s mix of a handful of materials, and this new Big Bang Unico is almost fully made of it. Case, bezel and case back have it. It is a material innovated by Hublot’s Research and Development department, recognized as Saxem. Which is an acronym for Sapphire Aluminium Oxide and Rare Earth Mineral.
The production involves a unique blend of aluminum oxide, the elemental building block of sapphire. This is combined with rare earth elements like thulium, holmium, and chromium. So, Saxem kind of looks and feels like sapphire, and has comparable hardness and durability. However, Saxem surpasses sapphire when it comes to luminosity.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Green Saxem has a power reserve of 72 hours
The set-up of the watch is like all other BBU’s, with an open-worked dial showing its gears and other interesting tech. Including an open-worked date disc. It runs with the automatic Hublot caliber HUB1280, a solid and often used chronograph movement. Also admirable through the transparent case back. It has a sufficient power reserve of 72 hours.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Green Saxem comes on a green structured line rubber strap. And just like the case and bezel, it is transparent-ish. A black ceramic and black-plated titanium deployant buckle clasp secures the watch.
