Hublot is the official time keeper of a sports event full of TM-stuff behind its name: UEFA. And FIFA as well. We’re talking football here, which is big business. That is why Hublot already launched a couple of models related to football. This Hublot Big Bang Unico Retrograde Chronograph Euro 2016 is the model dedicated to the 2016 European football championship, that was held in France.
One can argue if it is wise to sponsor a sport vehicle under fire. Most bosses of FIFA and UEFA have a ‘personalized view’ on democracy and how to run a union. On the other hand, it is the same story for the Olympics. And what about Bernie Ecclestone’s Formula 1? These are all TM-stuff brands where other brands like Hublot want to connect with in order to reach large audiences. For beer, or diet coke, we can understand that. But for 26,000-dollar watches we cannot.
Timing a football match is easy with the Hublot Big Bang Unico Retrograde Chronograph Euro 2016
Nevertheless, this Big Bang Unico based chronograph looks colorful (French), bright, big (although it is not that big) and has a practical side. If you like football. It is designed for timing football matches. Start the chronometer and the second and minute hands move across the scale at the top. The second hand jumps back to zero every minute.
When the minute hand reaches 45 minutes, the number “1” shows in the window at the center. The first half is over. It continues with a 15-minute interval, tea-time, shown by the indicator at the center. After that it jumps back to zero to start timing the second half. The time itself? It shows on a sub dial at 6 o’clock, with a small seconds sub dial at 9 o’clock. Great techniques, but it makes the dial a bit overloaded with functions and colors.
These nice techniques are enabled by the in-house built Unico movement HUB1261. It is a self-winding bi-retrograde column-wheel chronograph caliber, providing 72 hours of power-reserve. Hublot’s characteristics are present: the shape of the case, the H-shaped screws and the robust presence. And of course Hublot used special materials like ceramic (case and bezel), resin composite (case band) and titanium. The case back is from crystal sapphire and contains a UEFAtm logotm.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Retrograde Chronograph Euro 2016 is limited to 100 pieces. Below the specs a video to see how the watch works.
