To mark the 100th anniversary of retailer Watches of Switzerland, Hublot has released the Hublot Classic Fusion Centenary – WOSG Exclusive. A limited run of 50 pieces, is available exclusively through Watches of Switzerland boutiques and online stores in the UK and the US.
While this release celebrates a significant milestone for the retailer, the watch itself raises questions about how much innovation can still be brought to a long-established model. Well, other brands praised WOSG as well, like TAG Heuer this TAG Heuer Carrera Tourbillon Centenary Edition. Not a very new model either.
The design is familiar territory
The Classic Fusion Centenary edition stays close to Hublot’s established aesthetic. It features a 42-millimeter titanium case with both polished and satin-finished surfaces, a typical combination for the brand. The frosted carbon fiber bezel is a more distinctive choice, offering a textured contrast to the smooth case. However, for those already familiar with Hublot’s design language, there is little here that feels new or surprising.
The watch uses the same H-shaped screws on the carbon bezel, a hallmark of the brand, and a black rubber strap. Reinforcing the recognizable Hublot design from Carlo Crocco that has defined the brand since the 1980s. While Hublot’s Classic Fusion collection was once considered an innovative blend of materials and styles, this Centenary edition doesn’t stray far from the path already laid by its predecessors.
The Hublot Classic Fusion Centenary – WOSG Exclusive has a power reserve of 42 hours
The watch is powered by the HUB1110, a self-winding movement with a 42-hour power reserve. The 28,800 vibrations per hour and 25 jewels inside the movement ensure smooth operation, but there are no complications or groundbreaking advancements here that would push the watch beyond being a standard three-hand model with a date function.
What sets this edition apart is its connection to Watches of Switzerland’s centenary. The case back features an engraving that marks the partnership between the retailer and Hublot, which adds a layer of exclusivity for collectors. However, beyond the commemorative engraving and limited availability, the watch itself remains very much in line with previous Classic Fusion models.
