The IWC Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 Black Aces is the newest pilot watch that looks back at earlier collaborations with U.S. Navy squadrons. Its highlight is the fully luminous white dial. And for fans of the Black Aces the news is that the watch carries that logo.

IWC takes the inspiration for this watch from models they developed for members of the Strike Fighter Squadron 41 (VFA-41), also known as the Black Aces. This squadron is based at Naval Air Station Lemoore in California and for sure they used watches like these in the 1950s. Bright and easy to read. This model’s 41-millimeter case is from black zirconium oxide ceramic, a hard material the brand uses for some models since 1980.

The unique part, the dial, is executed in fully luminous white, called lumicast. It is developed through multiple processes blending high-grade super-luminova pigments. That results in a bright greenish light when it is in the dark, and it can last for more than 23 hours. Which makes the contrast with the black hour and minute hands and Arabic numerals as clear as possible.

Inside is an automatic IWC caliber 32100 with an anti-magnetic silicon escapement that makes it highly resistant to magnetic fields. It has a power reserve of 72 hours. The watch comes on a black textile strap with a pin buckle in sand-blasted stainless steel. And it is only available online at IWC’s website.
