The IWC Portugieser has been an icon of IWC for almost 80 years. The chronograph version is getting there as well with the third edition being presented in 2013 (reference 3904). And this new IWC Portugieser Chronograph Classic.
IWC is now reissuing the IWC Portugieser Chronograph Classic (reference 3903) with a few tweaks and updates design-wise. Take the railway track style chapter ring for example. It looks a bit cleaner than its predecessor without the subdivision of the seconds. And the watch looks more modern thanks to the convex sapphire glass.
Inside it is the reliable but already existing IWC in-house 89361 chronograph movement with flyback function. An automatic movement with a sturdy power-reserve of 68 hours. The IW 89361 can be seen through the sapphire case back. Also worth a look is the rotor, which is adorned with Geneva stripes.
The IWC Portugieser Chronograph Classic comes in gold and stainless steel
Although the facelift of the IWC Portugieser Chronograph Classic will only really be clear to watch aficionados, it works. Like some sleeker hands instead of the larger leaf hands and no more red accents So, clearly nothing too shocking but more of a refinement for a modern icon.
There are three versions of the IWC Portugieser Chronograph Classic. Two stainless steel versions with either a silver-plated or blue dial. And one top of the line 18-carat red gold case with a silver-plated dial. They all come on a brown or black alligator leather strap.
