IWC’s first Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante came out in 1995. The watch got its second upgrade last year with a number of special editions. The newest is the IWC Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante Edition Boutique Canada. This model commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Federation.
The only real difference being, as is the case with most ‘special editions’, some design elements. The watch has a 40.9-millimeter stainless steel case and a silver-plated dial. The totalizer at 12 o’clock and the small hacking seconds at 6 o’clock are black. The hands are rhodium-plated, the chronograph hands are red. The engraving on the case back depicts the maple leaf. Which is the most recognizable symbol of Canada and appears on the national flag and the royal coat of arms.
The IWC Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante Edition Boutique Canada is limited to 150 pieces
The watch is powered by the hand-wound IWC 76240 movement. It shows the hours, minutes, seconds and its twin chronograph dials mentioned above. The Portugieser is distinguished by a third push-button for starting and stopping the split-seconds hand. Which makes it possible to measure a second short period of time.
On starting the chronograph by pushing the button at 2 o’clock, two centrally rotating stopwatch hands mounted on top of each other are set in motion. The additional push-button at 10 o’clock is used to stop the upper hand, while the lower hand will continue to move until the regular stop button at 2 o’clock is pushed. This enables two short periods of time to be measured simultaneously. When the rattrapante push-button is activated a second time, the split-seconds hand is brought into synchronicity with the chronograph hand. No matter whether it has been stopped or is still moving.
The IWC Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante Edition Boutique Canada comes on a black alligator leather strap and is limited to 150 pieces. It will only be available at the IWC Boutique in Toronto.
