The IWC Portugieser Hand-wound Tourbillon Day & Night is a technical showcase with a special dial from volcanic material. A high-end dress watch addition to the Portugieser collection (est. 1939) with manual winding movement. Which features an ultralight tourbillon and a day & night indicator.

This Portugieser has a 42.4-millimeter 18 ct armor gold case with sapphire case back. 18 ct armor gold is a rare and relatively new variant of 5N gold, but harder and more wear resistant. The deep black dial is from obsidian, a volcanic glass that forms by the rapid cooling of viscous lava from volcanoes. The 56-part tourbillon is positioned at 6 o’clock and weights only 0.675 grams. At 9 o’clock there is a small globe depicting whether it is day or night. A complication that makes sense on a GMT, here it is more a ‘nice to have’.

The IWC Portugieser Hand-wound Tourbillon Day & Night has a power reserve of 84 hours

The sapphire case back reveals the hand-wound IWC caliber 81925 and as there is no oscillating weight you can see the 24-hour globe here as well. You can also see the gold-plated base plate which is partly open-worked to present a clear view on the components and the barrel. The movement is elaborately finished with circular Geneva stripes and offers a power reserve of 84 hours.

The IWC Portugieser Hand-wound Tourbillon Day & Night comes on a curved black alligator leather strap. It is made by the Italian shoe- and leather master Santoni and it is secured with an 18-carat armor gold folding clasp.
