The IWC Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph Lewis Hamilton is a new collaboration between IWC and their brand ambassador Lewis Hamilton. IWC sponsors the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One team, where Hamilton is their most successful driver. In fact he is one of the most successful Formula One racing drivers of all time. If you follow the Formule One you can see Hamilton wearing different IWC watches each race weekend. Like this IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team he showed a couple of months ago. This new watch however, is less sporty.
For this tourbillon IWC uses their caliber 89900 that offers not only a tourbillon but also a retrograde date complication and a chronograph. The chronograph has a combined hour and minute counter at the 12 o‘clock position. All of this can be admired on the dial, which is, just like the strap, green-ish blue, or teal, and gives the watch a very classic look. You will also find Hamilton’s logo on the dial, which is an artist impression of the eyes of a panther. And, as Hamilton apparently likes diamonds if you look at his ears and nose, the dial is also set with diamonds. 12 to be precise, around the numerals.
The IWC Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph Lewis Hamilton has a power reserve of 68 hours
The case of the IWC Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph Lewis Hamilton measures 43.5 millimeters and is made from platinum. It is 15.9 millimeters thick and has the classic Portugieser design. The sapphire is arche edged and the case back is transparent. The watch is limited to 44 pieces, a number that refers to Hamilton’s race number throughout his career.
By the way, it is not the first time IWC and Lewis Hamilton collaborate. They did that two times before. In 2014 they created the IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Edition Lewis Hamilton with reference IW379602. This model has a titanium case and bracelet and on the case back it features a piece of carbon fibre from an original racing car. In 2019 they created the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition “Lewis Hamilton” with reference IW503002. This model combined a black ceramic case and a Burgundy dial with a crown and case back ring made of 18-carat 5N gold. Below all the IWC Lewis Hamilton models so far.
