The Laurent Ferrier Classic Micro-rotor Di Rosa is the result of a collaboration between the Swiss brand and the nomadic artist Hervé Di Rosa. This Frenchman is known for his free figuration art works with comics, science fiction, rock, and punk influences. It is colorful, playful and actually cool.
For some of his work he created over a period of 40 years, and for the work of others, together with Bernard Belluc he founded a museum in Sète. This is the MIAM (International Museum of Modest Arts). It’s located in the South of France, under Montpellier, and it’s also known as the Venice of Languedoc. The objects in the museum are mostly made out of necessity or are useless. No, it doesn’t sound very attractive, but you should just take a look there yourself whenever you are around. Even your children will like it.
Converting a piece of art into a watch
Hervé Di Rosa has created a bas-relief together with collaborators in Foumban, Cameroon, in 2014. It depicts a character named Ah! Ah! Ah! and it is made from Iroko wood. This character comes from a mythology Di Rosa created, named Diromythology. It’s not a coincidence this mythologic figure has 12 arms and somehow corresponds with time. As Di Rosa once said: “Time is the only true power. The only divine thing a man can have besides life is time passing on his wrist.” Well, that’s wise and a nice way to support the watch industry.
Laurent Ferrier copied this bas-relief on a dial, by hand-engraving it in an 18-carat white gold plate. The Assegai-shaped hands are also from white gold, all within a 40-millimeter stainless steel case. Mostly comparable with the Laurent Ferrier Classic Micro-rotor Evergreen, one of the regular models in this series.
The Laurent Ferrier Classic Micro-rotor Di Rosa has a power reserve of 72 hours
This piece of arts runs on the automatic Laurent Ferrier caliber FBN 229.01 with natural escapement micro-rotor. So, it has a double direct impulse escapement on the balance wheel, inspired from the inventor of it, Abraham-Louis Breguet. With most mechanical movements it’s the anchor that gives impulse to the balance, but here it is the escape wheel. There is a second escape wheel to give impulse to the balance alternately and they “communicate” with a silicon anchor. Which is ultra-light and self-lubricated. The result is more efficiency, providing a power reserve of 72 hours.
The Laurent Ferrier Classic Micro-rotor Di Rosa comes on a forest green nubuck leather strap. For some extra comfort it has Alcantara lining and it’s all hand sewn. The pin buckle is from stainless steel and the watch is limited to five pieces only.
