The Louis Erard x Olivier Mosset Le Regulateur is the outcome of the collaboration between the Swiss brand and Olivier Mosset. The result is officially called Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Olivier Mosset but computer systems like the brand name to be mentioned first in order to put everything correctly in alphabetic order. And Régulateur is French for a type of watch that shows hours, minutes and seconds each with their own pivot. A regulator.
Manuel Emch, the head of Louis Erard and an avid enthusiast of modern art, initiated this partnership with Olivier Mosset as Mosset is renowned in the contemporary art scene. Mosset, born 1944 in Bern, Switzerland, often works with monochromatic and geometric abstract presentations. Which explains the looks of this extreme minimalistic time piece.
Telling the time takes some time…
It features an all-black design, extending from its case and dial to its hands and strap, creating a sleek and unified aesthetic. The case is crafted from black PVD-coated stainless steel, measuring 42 millimeters. It has a black lacquered dial adorned with silver glitters for more contrast.
The hands are slender rods, also in black, for the hours (top), minutes (middle), and seconds (bottom). They are identical in shape, length, width, and rounded ends and they are mechanically separated. The only distinguishing feature is the size of the aperture on each hand. It indicates the direction, and serves as a minimalist reference to maintain the readability of the timepiece.
The Louis Erard x Olivier Mosset Le Regulateur has a power reserve of 38 hours
Inside runs an automatic Sellita caliber SW266-1 (an SW200-1 series) which can be admired through the watch’s transparent black case back. The hours, minutes and seconds functions run on their own pivot. The movement also has a date function which is not used on this Regulator. The power reserve is 38 hours.
The Louis Erard x Olivier Mosset Le Regulateur is presented on a black Baranil calf leather strap, fastened with a black PVD stainless steel buckle. An extra leather strap is also part of the package. The watch is limited to 178 pieces, and has a label that says “work of art – do not wear”.
