The Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Ceramic 39 mm and 42 mm is another variant of the tree-hander with a date by ML, this time in ceramic. It comes in white ceramic with a 39-millimeter case and in black ceramic with a 42-millimeter case. So, it brings ceramic into the Maurice Lacroix Aikon collection.
According to the brand they spend three years of research and development, aiming to make ceramic cases more accessible while offering improved material performance. The new Aikons offer distinct designs in glossy white and matte black. The case features angular edges and a bezel with six arms, characteristic of the Aikon collection.
Ceramic Hardness and Dial Design
The ceramic material, which ML’s calls “technical ceramic” is scratch-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and hypoallergenic, offering high thermal stability. Now, ceramic is super hard as well, compared to most other materials used for watches. In general, ceramic has a so-called Hardness Vickers of 1200 to 1400, whereas stainless steel does about 150 to 250, depending on the grade. The only drawback is that it is harder to repair when a case is damaged.
The dial of the ceramic Aikon Automatic integrates legible indexes and hands, enhanced with super-luminova for visibility in low light. The date display sits discreetly, adding functionality without cluttering the layout. And both dials sport a Clous de Paris pattern. Glossy white or matt black.
Key Features of the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Ceramic
- Ceramic case and bracelet
- Two sizes
- Simple but reliable movement
- Exhibition case back
The Movement Inside
The Aikon Automatic Ceramic houses the Maurice Lacroix caliber ML115, an automatic movement based on the Sellita caliber SW200-1 a. In this Aikon the movement provides a power reserve of 38 hours. The SW200 is one of the most used non-ETA calibers in the world of watches, solidifying its reputation as a dependable choice.
The movement’s finishing reflects attention to detail, with Geneva stripes and perlage visible through the exhibition case back. Where you can also admire the rhodium-plated rotor with M-logo.
The watch comes on a bracelet crafted entirely from technical ceramic, echoing the case’s design. Maurice Lacroix ensured a comfortable fit by engineering each link to articulate smoothly around the wrist. The bracelet is secured with a butterfly clasp, ensuring both ease of use and a streamlined aesthetic.
Price and Competitors
The Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Ceramic is priced around 3k, which is not the cheapest three-hander/date config with an SW200 inside. Sure, the ceramic makes it stand out, and the choice between black or white is a good option.
