The Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time Bronze is one of three new models from Montblanc with a bronze case. Well, only the 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter has a bronze case. The 1858 Automatic and this model have a satinated stainless steel case with a bronze bezel and bronze crown. The back of the case is also stainless steel with an engravement of the Minerva factory in Villaret, Switzerland.

Minerva, founded in 1858, was acquired by the Richemont Group, also the owner of Montblanc, in 2006. That resulted in a collaboration between Montblanc and Minerva: the last one for high-end movements, the first one for high-end watches. The name of the Montblanc 1858 collection is taken from Minerva’s founding year (although it was called “H & C Robert Co.” at the time). And the design of all models is inspired by vintage Minerva military watches from the 1930s. And some of the models even have a movement based on classic Minerva movements from the 1930s. Which is pretty cool. But more expensive.

The Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time Bronze is one of the more affordable bronze models on the market

This 1858 Automatic Dual Time has a Sellita SW300 based movement with a manufacture Montblanc dual time complication. It has rapid adjustment of the local time in hourly steps and the date is linked to the local time. Home time, minutes and seconds continue to run during local-time adjustment. It also features a night and day indicator just below the 12 o’clock position. A solid base movement with a useful complication which can be offered against a rather affordable price. Available from the beginning of July 2017.

On the right a Minerva model probably from the 1930s
