Montblanc is on a roll these days. Their (bought) history with the Minerva manufacture results in some pretty good pieces and they continue this winning streak in 2018. With the new Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph for instance.
A chronograph that has its roots in the Minerva history and will probably fully enjoy the current ‘vintage’ craze due to its retro ‘panda dial’. A dial that is based on the dashboards of classic racing cars, but the bold contrast between the three-dimensional counters and white dial is mostly just a cool way to make up a chronograph.
The dial also has a flange with a 5-minute track coated with super-luminova for high visibility during day and night. Other features include rhodium-plated, dauphine-shaped hour and minute hands and a red chronograph second hand. Which is inspired by the Minerva arrow, a nod to Minerva’s legacy and heritage. All these ‘homages’ are fitted in a 43-millimeter stainless steel case powered by something a bit more modern. Namely, an all-new in-house movement by Montblanc: the MB 25.10.
The Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph bears the brand-new caliber MB 25.10
The movement features traditional finishing such as Côtes de Genève and circular graining. The MB 25.10 has blue screws and a new monobloc oscillating weight made of black rhodium-plated tungsten. It is designed in the shape of a steering wheel to complete the racing inspired feel of the watch.
The movement is equipped with a traditional column wheel chronograph, a horizontal coupling as well as a stop-second mechanism, allowing the precise setting of the time. A movement that is just 30.15 millimeter in diameter for a 43-millimeter watch. The movement will probably make its way into smaller watches in the coming years.
The Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph comes on a perforated aged leather strap crafted by Montblanc’s own Pelletteria in Florence. However the Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph will not make its way into shops very quickly. It will not be released until September 2018.
