This new Nivada Grenchen Antarctic GMT watch caters to global travelers seeking a watch with functionality for tracking multiple time zones. Designed with practicality in mind, the GMT complication offers a straightforward way to manage time in various zones. And it is a nod to the so-called Jet Age.

At the peak of this Jet Age, between 1955 and 1972, traveling around the world became more popular, due to more commercial flights. As a result the demand for watches with an extra time zone indication was rising. Therefore Nivada Grenchen introduced the Antarctic GMT in the early 1970s. This model runs on the Enicar caliber AR-1146, a GMT movement with a 24-hour hand that is synched with the 12-hour hand. So I cannot be adjusted independently.

Internal rotating 24-hour bezel

This new Antarctic GMT highlights a user-friendly GMT function for dual-time tracking. incorporating a 24-hour bezel. Here executed in plexiglass with a black-amber colored scale and adjustable with one of the two crowns.

The size of the model is rather small, with 36 millimeters, also a nod to the classic models. It comes in stainless steel with either a matt black or a tropical brown-ish dial color. Hands and indexes have super-luminova and the GMT hand is red-black, just like the 1970s model. The dial is covered with flat acrylic glass, not sapphire. This gives it a more retro appeal and it avoids distortions common with sapphire.

The Nivada Grenchen Antarctic GMT has a power reserve of 42 hours

The Nivada Grenchen Antarctic GMT runs on the Soprod caliber C125, which is based on the Soprod caliber A10-2, also known as the Soprod caliber M100. The C125 has a GMT module on top of the M100 making it a little thicker. The power reserve of this automatic is 42 hours.

For the strap, you have many options in leather, rubber, and types of bracelets. Just browse the brand’s website for the right choice. The price of this Antarctic GMT is about 1,200 to 1,600 which is a fair offer given the specs of this tool watch.
