The special edition Nomos Tangente 38 Date – 175 Years Watchmaking Glashütte is a celebration model that comes in 31 different versions. As the name tells you, it celebrates 175 years of watchmaking in the German village Glashütte. It is located in the Saxony region (Sachsen in German), which is in the eastern part of Germany near the Czech border, and south from Berlin. The village is known for its watchmaking industry with brands like A. Lange & Söhne, Glashütte Original, Moritz Grossmann and of course Nomos.

Nomos itself is by far not as old as the Glashütte watchmaking industry, as it was founded in 1990, by Roland Schwertner. Nevertheless, they have incorporated the traditional watchmaking skills and combined them with a sauce of Bauhaus and modernistic style. The brand’s name is NOMOS Glashütte/SA and to include “Glashütte” in a brand name means that at least 50% of the movement should be made in Glashütte. With Nomos it’s about 95% by the way. Let’s head over to this special edition Tangente 38 Date.

31 different models, all limited

This new Nomos Tangente 38 Date is crafted in a stainless steel case measuring 37.5 millimeters, so almost 38 millimeters. There are 31 different colorful models starting with reference 179.S1 up to 179.S31. Look at the picture for all the color schemes and their individual names, as they all have a different name as well.

The watch has the original Tangente design, plain and simple, with clear typography, here with a large date window at 6 o’clock. Above the date is a small seconds sub dial. This sub dial, as well as the minute track surrounding the dial, can have a different color than the dial itself. That depends on the version.

The Nomos Tangente 38 Date Special Edition has a power reserve of 42 hours

Revealed through its sapphire case back is the in-house Nomos caliber DUW 4101. This is a hand-wound movement with a date ring on the outside. Both aspects provide the ability to keep the movement as slim as possible – 2.8 millimeters. The power reserve is 42 hours.

The Nomos Tangente 38 Date Special Edition comes either on a light or dark grey textile strap. It is secured with a folding clasp. And each of the 31 models is limited to 175 pieces.
