The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Monochrome – as we call it to keep it simple – is a new variant of the brand’s famous diver. Actually, two models. Since its introduction in 1993, the Seamaster Diver 300M has been a hallmark of Omega’s dedication to underwater timekeeping. These two new models continue this tradition while adding a monochrome tone to it.
Thus, the new-ish features of this diver are the monochrome color set, in either black or steel, and the use of different materials for the bezel and dial. One is black with white details, the other is steel with white details. And the first was seen in the summer when Bond actor and Omega ambassador Daniel Craig was wearing a sort of prototype of a very black Seamaster. So, let’s see what the fuzz is all about.
A Legacy Forged in Water
Omega first launched the Seamaster Diver 300M in 1993 to revive its prominence in diving watches. Building on a legacy from the 1960s and 70s, the collection combines functionality and distinctive aesthetics. The wave-pattern dial, helium escape valve, and skeletonized hands quickly became signature elements.
Over the years, the line gained recognition through cinematic appearances, including James Bond films, which solidified its status in popular culture. This latest iteration draws inspiration from the 007 Edition featured in No Time To Die, with notable upgrades in materials and design.
Special bezels and dials
This Seamaster Diver 300M Monochrome measures 42 millimeters in diameter. Both the black and the steel versions have a stainless steel case. The black version pairs this with a unidirectional rotating black oxalic anodized aluminium bezel with a diving scale in white super-luminova. The steel version has a unidirectional rotating grade 5 titanium bezel with a laser-ablated diving scale in positive relief. This one has only super-luminova on the 12-hour dot.
A laser-engraved black aluminium dial with a wave pattern is used for the black version. This is paired with skeleton rhodium-plated hour and minute hands and indexes with white super-luminova. Really a new color scheme? Nah. Earlier black Seamasters had a red logo or something, or another pattern on the dial. So, it is not really really new. The steel version has a brushed PVD stainless steel dial, now that is new. It also has skeleton PVD stainless steel hour and minute hands and indexes, all with white super-luminova. All other markings on both models are transferred, in either white or black.
Key Features of the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Monochrome
- Proven track record as a diver
- METAS certified
- James Bond style
- Exhibition case back
Omega Caliber 8806: The Heart of Precision
These monochrome Seamasters are powered by the Omega caliber 8806, a date-less caliber 8800, setting a high standard for accuracy and reliability. Certified by METAS, it resists magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, ensuring performance in various environments. The automatic movement offers a power reserve of 55 hours.
Its co-axial escapement reduces friction, prolonging the movement’s lifespan. The rhodium-plated finish and Geneva waves in arabesque highlight Omega’s commitment to aesthetics, visible through the sapphire crystal case back. The helium valve protects the watch after taking the deep dives.
Bracelet and Strap Options
The Seamaster Diver 300M comes with two strap choices. The stainless steel mesh bracelet draws inspiration from the Bond 007 Edition, offering both comfort and a vintage-inspired look.
Alternatively, a rubber strap option provides a lightweight and versatile choice for more active use. Both options feature secure clasp systems, ensuring reliability during wear.
Pricing and Market Position
The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Monochrome versions are priced at around 5 to 7k. Just in between the Tudor Pelagos and the Rolex Submariner. Both are professional-grade dive watches as well. The first is becoming more and more high-end, and the second is one of the most popular high-end watches ever.
Of course, the models with a rubber strap are a little more affordable, although more and more brands deliver two straps with their watches. Perhaps Omega should consider that next time, to offer something extra for potential buyers who are in doubt about which brand to choose.
