The Oris Aquis Date Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV is part of Oris’ mission to bring “change for the better”. Therefor the brand is already climate neutral and committed to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. What Oris does, supporting the Australian Reef Restoration Foundation since 2018, belongs to goal 14. Which is to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
So, the brands assumably supports the Reef Restoration Foundation financially, although it is not clear of this watch is directly contributing to that. But it’s not that important anyway, the fact that the brand commits to Change for the Better is praiseworthy. Now, let’s look at this special edition.
Gradient dial, Tungsten bezel
The dial is executed in gradient blue with touches of turquoise and a pallet of blue that mirrors the colors of the sea of the Australian Great Barrier Reef. And as you can see the gradient falls from top to bottom instead of the usual gradients from the center.
This 43.5-millimeter diver is from stainless steel and the grey unidirectional bezel is from the rather unusual material Tungsten. Normally used for oscillating weights due to its mass. Thanks to the screw-in crown and screwed case back the model sports a water resistance of 300 meters / 990 feet.
The Oris Aquis Date Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV has a power reserve of 120 hours
The movement of the Oris Aquis Date Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV is the Oris caliber 400. An impressive automatic with double barrel and COSC accuracy of -3 / +5 seconds per day, although it’s not COSC certified. It comes with a 10 year warranty and 120 hours of power reserve.
This Aquis Date has on a 3-link stainless steel bracelet with security folding clasp and quick adjust clasp system. The watch is limited to 1,200 pieces, numbered on the case back that also has engravings of the coral from the Great Barrier Reef.
