Thierry Stern, the current president of Patek, pays tribute to his father with this minute repeater equipped with a new movement, exclusively used for this watch.

The brand Patek Philippe is owned by the Stern family since 1932, and since 2009 Thierry Stern is the president. He took over this position from his father Philippe, who took over his father Henri’s position in 1993, who took over his father Charles’ position in 1958. The design of the reference 1938P links to reference 3960

This new minute repeater with an alarm complication, the first for the brand, is limited to 30 pieces. Which links to the 30 years of service of Philippe Stern in the world of watches. The watch is housed in a 41-millimeter platinum case, bringing back one of the designs of Philippe Stern: the reference 3960. Which has a plain case, with a subtle white dial and Breguet numerals.

This reference 1938P follows this subtle dial design, but now in black grand feu enamel on an 18k gold dial plate. Most remarkable is the image of Mr. Philippe Stern in grey and white grand feu miniature painting. The case is furnished with a sapphire crystal back protected by a hinged dust cover The inside of the dus cover is engraved with “A mon père, 85 ans de passion horlogère”. Which translates as “To my father, 85 years of watchmaking passion”.

Inside runs the automatic Patek Philippe caliber R AL 27 PS. A new movement specifically built for this watch, and it will never be used in any other watch. It features a 22k yellow-gold mini-rotor that is rhodium plated with yellow-gold edges. And it is adorned with a black-lacquered hand engraving reproducing Philippe Stern’s signature. The power reserve is 48 hours at max.

The Patek Philippe Minute Repeater Alarm ref. 1938P-001 comes on a shiny black alligator leather strap, with square scales and is hand-stitched. It is secured with a platinum fold-over clasp with the Patek Philippe logo.
