The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon 150th Anniversary is the thinnest tourbillon in the world with just 2 millimeters. It also takes a year to make one for which you pay more than half a million. Something unique comes with a price. And walking around with a tourbillon watch with a thickness of only 2 millimeters is very unique.
It goes without saying that to obtain such a thin watch, years of development were needed. The base is the caliber 900P that was launched in 2018 in the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept. That was the world’s thinnest mechanical watch (2 millimeters). Later, Bvlgari beats the record (1.8 millimeters) with the Octo Finissimo Ultra. But in 2022 the Richard Mille RM UP-01 Ferrari beats the Bvlgari record with a watch of only 1.75 millimeters thick. Yes, it’s a great marketing instrument. But beatable again?
The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon 150th Anniversary has a power reserve of 40 hours
Back to the caliber P900. Piaget had to redesign 90% of the components of this caliber from the original Altiplano Ultimate Concept. And than add a tourbillon. As we assume beating the 1.75-millimeter Richard Mille didn’t make sense anymore. However, creating the world’s thinnest tourbillon could be a record that will last for a few years.
The sapphire crystal is 0.20 millimeters on the dial side and 0.16 on the back. The case material is a cobalt alloy often used for implants, and is highly resistant to general and pitting corrosion. And probably the best choice for working with tolerances of microns, thus far below 1 millimeter. The result is not just a flat coin-like watch, but a watch with depth and appeal.
The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon 150th Anniversary comes on a leather strap with printed 3D motif. The pin buckle is also from cobalt alloy.
