The Piaget Polo Date 36 mm Rainbow is one of the models to celebrate the brand’s 150th anniversary. This time with more than two hands full of sapphires, rubies, spessartites, tsavorites and citrines. All forming a very colorful composition on a rose gold and white mother-of-pearl background. Let’s start with the bezel.
The bezel of the 36-millimeter rose gold case has almost 3 carats of gemstone, which equals about 0.6 grams. As one carat is 0.2 grams. In total it contains 17 trapeze-cut gems with 7 sapphires (approx. 0.45 ct), 6 purple sapphires (approx. 0.38 ct), 5 rubies (approx. 0.30 ct), 4 pink sapphires (approx. 0.22 ct), 6 spessartites (approx. 0.36 ct), 6 green tsavorites (approx. 0.30 ct) and 6 citrines (approx. 0.25 ct). They are set in a rainbow pattern, so each gem shows a color transition to the next, making a full round around the dial. But we’re not there yet.
Dial and crown are also set with gems
The dial is made of mother-of-pearl with a “Decor Palace” lay-out. This is a a gold engraving technique Piaget uses since the 1960s to kind of bring alive the material on which it is applied. Here on the composite material produced by mollusks as an inner shell layer, called mother-of-pearl. All hour-markers are also set with gems.
Therea are 2 sapphires (approx. 0.06 ct), 2 purple sapphires (approx. 0.06 ct), 2 rubies (approx. 0.06 ct), 1 pink sapphire (approx. 0.03 ct), 1 orange sapphire (approx. 0.03 ct), 2 green tsavorites (approx. 0.06 ct) and 2 citrines (approx. 0.06 ct). All baguette-cut. Moreover, the crown is also set with a ruby (approx. 0.05 ct) to top it off.
The Piaget Polo Date 36 mm Rainbow has a power reserve of 40 hours
This Rainbow runs on the Piaget caliber 500P1, a rather slim automatic movement (3.63 millimeters) providing a power reserve of 40 hours. It has circular Côtes de Genève, a circular grained plate, and a beveled bridge. Furthermore, the screws are blue colored, and the oscillating weight is slate grey colored with an engraved Piaget Coat of Arms. Mostly visible through the sapphire case back.
