Raymond Weil introduces the Freelancer Skeleton 38 mm, for everyone who likes to see what’s going on inside their timepiece. The Freelancer collection debuted in 2007, and over the years, it has offered a range of mechanical watches, emphasizing urban and versatile designs. This Skeleton 38 mm represents the first time a skeletonized movement appears in a compact 38-millimeter stainless steel case, reinforcing the collection’s spirit of innovation.

This Freelancer features a round, 38-millimeter stainless steel case with a 10.87-millimeter thickness. Its openwork dial, finished in blue with super-luminova details, highlights the exposed mechanics, particularly the balance wheel positioned at six o’clock. You can see a blue flange with a minute scale and a partly blackened movement with gold accents. All enhance the visual depth, creating an interplay of colors across the skeletonized design.

Key Features of the Raymond Weil Freelancer Skeleton 38 mm

  • Open-worked dial
  • Balanced color palette
  • Black ruthenium-finished skeleton movement
  • In-house automatic

The Movement: Caliber RW1212

The Raymond Weil Freelancer Skeleton 38 mm is driven by their caliber RW1212, a self-winding mechanical movement, offering a 41-hour power reserve. This movement was developed in-house, with the help of Sellita, and features a unique W-shaped oscillating weight. A signature element of the brand.

The black ruthenium finish adds a modern touch to the traditional Swiss craft. The balance wheel’s placement at six o’clock draws focus to the heart of the mechanism. Also a hallmark of this caliber, as historically, the RW1212 movement has been a point of pride for Raymond Weil.

Price of the Raymond Weil Freelancer Skeleton 38 mm

This Freelancer comes with a stainless steel bracelet, with a double-push security system folding clasp. The Raymond Weil Freelancer Skeleton 38 mm retails at around 3 to 3.5k. Competing skeleton watches in this price range, mostly lack the in-house developed movement and the unique design touches found in the Freelancer Skeleton.

But it might be worth taking a look at these recent skeletons as well. Like the Alpina Alpiner Extreme Skeleton Automatic, or the Perrelet Weekend Skeleton. Differently styled but both are in the 2 to 3k price range. And maybe this under 1k Tissot Chemin des Tourelles Skeleton might interest you as well, available in three colors.
